Quick Overview

The RTM model in TestAuto2 consists of:
  • 12+ entity types spanning requirements, functions, failure modes, risk controls, and test cases
  • 8 primary link roles defining traceability chains (refines, verifies, validates, mitigates, assesses, and more)
  • Cardinality rules enforcing 1:N, M:N, and hierarchical relationships
  • Expansion patterns used by powersheet to traverse relationships and create denormalized views

Key Concepts

Every link in the RTM model is a compliance assertion. ISO 26262 Part 8 requires bidirectional traceability from customer needs through design, verification, and production. TestAuto2 enforces this through link cardinality rules and coverage reports.
Work item types like Hazard, Safety Goal, and Risk Control are marked as safety-critical in the RTM model. Failure Mode and Characteristic items linked to Safety-Critical (SC) requirements inherit safety status for ASIL allocation.
